Prayers and Meditations by Bahá'u'lláh:

Unofficial Parallel-text Study Edition

Bahá'u'lláh

Daniel Azim Pschaida, compiler

2026-07

About: This personal study edition places the Persian and Arabic source passages beside the authorized English translation of Shoghi Effendi, to facilitate multilingual study. This is an informal study resource, not an official or critical edition and not intended to replace official publications.

Most of this document is a reproduction of the compilation of the original language of Bahá’u’lláh with Shoghi Effendi’s authoritative translations found at oceanoflights.org/file/Bahaullah-PM01-001_trans_ar.pdf

Since longer prayers sometimes become unwieldy when there is a single cell for the entire prayer, with the translation and original eventually being found on different pages due to different amount of text in distinct languages, I replaced those pages with my own tables in which the prayer’s lines, sentences, or paragraphs are broken up into individual cells. This allows for much quicker comparisons to find the original or the English translation for a specific subset of text.

The prayers completely reformatted were numbers 8, 31, 56, 58, 73, 101, 153, 176, and 179-184, the latter of which includes each of the obligatory prayers as well as The Tablet of Visitation. Any prayer in which the number was bolded is part of the reformatting, rather than source document from oceanoflights.org.

For new tables created, the English was copied from bahai.org/library/authoritative-texts/bahaullah/prayers-meditations, and the Arabic or Persian was copied from reference.bahai.org/ar/t/b/ or https://oceanoflights.org/table/bahaullah-prayers-and-meditations-01-ar/.

In addition, for the Long Obligatory Prayer, I incorporated — with permission — Hajir Moghaddam’s organization, “The Music of the Long Obligatory Prayer, a Transliteration” in which he elegantly organizes verse-by-verse presentation of the Arabic, the English, and a transliteration while also telegraphing by color-of-cell phrases that rhyme or near-rhyme. This is prayer number 183 found on pages 276-286.
