1. About

This memoir is a biography of Lucille Sanche Maloney, as recounted by her daughter Suzanne.

Having lived both in Montreal and then in one of the most beautiful and isolated regions during periods of great social change in the province of Québec, Lucille made choices in her life that have inspired her family and many who had the pleasure of having known her independent and radiant spirit.

Born in the 1920s and educated among the more privileged classes in French Canada, Lucille later witnessed the devastation of Europe, post-World War II. She then returned to her home to pursue her studies in the visual arts and nursing. Settling in an outpost of the Red Cross in the early 1950s, Lucille learned how to care and nurse the poor and pursue her life in many challenging circumstances; at a time when the role of women, of religion, of corporate business, of the state and the country were in great flux. After years of search, Lucille discovered the Bahá’í Faith and shared her discovery with her family and friends.

2. Review

Review by Will C Van Den Hoonaard, Professor Emeritus, Department of Sociology, University of New Brunswick, on the back cover:
... I cannot recall ever reading such a detailed portrayal of the atmosphere of the time and conditions of the Bahá'í Community. I am so grateful to have come across details of Beaulac, and my goodness to read about the many individuals whose paths we have crossed! This is a memory book, with so many pictures!

The literary aspect of your writing is not to be sneezed at either. Clear and purposeful writing. The book has wrapped my heart as an act of love and remembrance. What more can I say?
