Abstract:
Comprehensive list of names and terms encountered in Bahá'í history, with transcription (accents, underlines and underdots), locations, word meanings, history and definitions. Updated monthly.
Notes:
This glossary lists the Roman script transcription forms of many of the Arabic, Fársí, or Turkish words used in the Bahá’í Writings as a guide to their transcription. Additional root words have been added as a guide to an understanding of the meaning of the words.
See also a Guide to Transliteration and Pronunciation (M. Gail, 1957), a list of Oriental Words in Bahá'í Literature (Bahá'í World, 1986), Short Glossary of Bahá'í Terms (J. Winters, 2010), Glossary of Arabic and Persian terms (at Bahaipedia, off-site), and an audio Bahá'í Pronunciation Guide (A. Banani, 1967). See also list of abbreviations used at this site, and The Transliteration System Used in Bahá'í Literature. Also available in Microsoft Word format. |
