Abstract: This Epistle, revealed by the Báb during His confinement in the remote fortress of Mákú, is addressed directly to Muḥammad Shāh Qájár and written in a mixture of Arabic and Persian. It comprises two sections: a prefatory note recounting the circumstances of its dispatch, and the main body of the text, which was revealed on 15 Sha‘bán 1263 A.H. (27 July 1847). In it, the Báb reminds the Shāh of his promise to grant Him an audience — an assurance given prior to the monarch’s departure on a military campaign in the northeast of the country. That promise, however, remained unfulfilled. Aware of the obstruction posed by the Grand Vizier, Ḥájí Mírzá Áqásí, the Báb addresses the sovereign directly, entreating him to act with justice and resolution. The prefatory section was added later, on 21 Ramaḍán 1263 A.H. (30 August 1847), when an opportunity arose to transmit the Epistle to Ṭihrán.
